Ever since we moved into our house in 1999, we have done extensive remodeling. At one point, walking into half of the house was like walking into a barn... stripped down to the bare wood (and discovering all kinds of things - old doors, walls totally without any insulation, etc., etc.). Luckily, Bert is extremely handy and we were able to do a lot of the work ourselves, with the help of friends now and then. But when I was pregnant with Hunter, the amount of work to be done - and the time frame for the completion - meant to hire someone. Dave did an awesome job then, so it only made sense to hire Dave again when we wanted more work done. A couple months ago we were considering moving... but who wants a house half done? Especially one with no interior doors? I'm thrilled to say... our house now actually has interior doors!!!!!!! This is the bathroom door. Quite exciting, isn't it?! And we've decided to stay in our little farm house and enjoy the progress of doors, trim, and such.
This is a "during" picture... not quite before, but not after (yet!). It's a picture of the stairway, standing at the top of the stairs on the second floor looking down. All of the horse-hair plaster was removed, including on the ceiling.
Goodbye ugly wallpaper! We actually have the same stuff in the last room still to be torn apart and it kinda grows on you, but believe me, I wasn't upset to see it go.
Brand-new drywall and a new ceiling. :-) Awesome job, Dave!!
Our house is over a hundred years old... and the stairs are really showing their age. So, this coming weekend, Hunter and I are heading to G&G Koebnick's place for a night or two, while Bert and Dave completely tear out the old stairs and replace with brand new ones. They will start the project on Friday, 10/30, and I've asked them to make sure they take pictures of the project. Stay tuned!
